Almanac #5 was made during the transition from mud to a more spring-ish seasons here in the Upper Valley. In this piece, we wanted the words to challenge the pictures for dominance, so that, at a glance, the piece as a whole would strike the casual viewer more as a poster, full of words, than an image fractalized into even smaller images. We wanted this piece to look like a page of poetry from across the room.
One of our strategies for achieving this effect is to block out letters in the panels, in this case, to spell out various names for the season we call Spring.
The "s" in our word Hiems awaits the results of our amber experiments. So far, the polyeurothene entrapped letter S from an old keyboard is in the lead. By April 1, we will post pics of the results, no-fooling!
